Dear Right Wing and your guns,
One theme I have been hearing for a long time is the idea that a gun owner is a citizen and an unarmed citizen is a subject. Basically, if you own a gun, the government is far less likely to mess with you and if things get real bad, the citizens under that theory would ban together and offer solid resistance.
Here is a reality check for all of you. A short look at history tells the real story.
What happened the collective armed resistance for Randy Weaver? Where were you supporters then? Randy Weaver was just a regular guy that lived a relatively clean life, minded his own business and believe in the theory above. His only offense was selling a sawed off shot gun to a federal agent. For that they killed his wife and young child in front of the entire family.
How about the Branch Dividians? Where was the collective armed resistance when they needed it? Granted, the BD were a bit more extreme. But they too only wanted to be left alone.
Then there is the interment of Japanese Americans in the Second World War. See how quickly your precious rights evaporated when the government saw fit?
The point is that in every case in this country, when the government wanted to round those they see a threat and collect their guns, they didn't do it piece-meal. they came in force. Overwhelming massive force with superior firepower. Sure, some feds got killed. But they didn't go away and the simply trucked in twice as many.
In all cases nobody with a gun lifted a finger to help them. NOT A SINGLE ONE OF YOU. The take-away from this is that gun owners are mouth pieces, talkers and most of all, we know when their help is needed, we'll not get it.
The ironic part is that generally gun owners malign attorneys, but the only people that did help in all these cases were lawyers. Ask Randy Weaver.
